There are no specific minimum hardware requirements to use Overcharts. The minimum requirements depend on how you use Overcharts and in particular:
- by the number of Real Time connections active simultaneously
- by the number of charts, DOMs, Workspaces open
- by the number and type of indicators used (some indicators such as Volume Profile, Volume Ladder, TPO Profile, Market Depth Map etc., may require many calculation resources and graphics refresh).
PC Limits:
Every PC has its hardware limitations. If the amount of work your PC has to do exceeds its capabilities you will see a general slowdown or delay in data flow.
A delay in the data flow can essentially depend on 2 things:
- The data-feed is actually late. In this case there is not much you can do. This is a temporary problem with the data feed. You just need to wait.
- Your PC cannot handle the workload it is subjected to (calculation and graphics refresh). In this case, the delay in the data flow will tend to increase. To solve the problem you need to understand what the maximum workload your PC can handle.
To try to understand this limit, follow these steps:
1. Close Overcharts and all non-essential applications running on your PC
2. Open Overcharts and start connections to your data-feeds
3. Open a Workspace / chart / DOM etc. at a time until you notice a slowdown / delay in the data flow. When you start to see a slowdown it means that your PC has probably reached its limit.
Some advices:
- Do not open too many Workspaces / Charts / DOMs etc.
- Instead of limiting the number of charts / Workspaces open, you can try increasing the Data Refreshing Rate. By increasing the rate, data and charts will be updated less frequently, reducing the workload for your PC.
- Do not run other non-essential applications on the same PC at the same time as Overcharts.
- Make sure your antivirus does not slow down Overcharts.
- Make sure you have a stable and fast enough Internet connection.
- If you are about to buy a new PC, we suggest you choose a PC with at least 16GB of RAM, an i7 or higher processor, a good graphics card and an SSD hard disk with at least 500GB of disk space.
Internet line:
It is ESSENTIAL to have a STABLE and FAST enough Internet line to support the connection to our servers and all your data-feeds. We recommend you always prefer a connection via ETHERNET CABLE to your router/modem. If possible, avoid WiFi and connecting via VPN. Using a VPN means adding an extra node to your connection, slowing down the data-feed and making it theoretically more unstable.
